"猿まわし（Saru mawashi）" is one of the traditional Japanese performing arts which has a history of more than 1000 years. Monkeys perform various acrobatic tricks such as ball riding, and samersault etc.

Japanese people had believed monkeys were considered to be the guardian deity of horses, and it is said that they originated from the prayer dance to protect horses from illness.
