The era when Kinko Kurosawa appeared|History of the Shakuhachi

The shakuhachi became popular with the common people in the 1700s

In the 1700s, the Komuso were featured in Kabuki and became popular as it was depicted in Ukiyo-e (woodblock prints).

Eventually, when a monk who specialized in teaching the shakuhachi came out, a rehearsal hall was established in Edo City(modern Tokyo) , and the shakuhachi became popular, including with the general public.

 

Kinko Kurosawa founded the "Kinko-ryu(琴古流)"

Kinko Kurosawa (1710-1771) is a famous player from the Fukiawase-dokoro, traveled to various places as a shakuhachi teacher. He also collected the original songs of the shakuhachi. He was the founder of the "琴古流(Kinko ryu)", then from this time on, a school master system was formed.
