The shakuhachi became popular with the common people in the 1700s
In the 1700s, the Komuso were featured in Kabuki and became popular as it was depicted in Ukiyo-e (woodblock prints).
Eventually, when a monk who specialized in teaching the shakuhachi came out, a rehearsal hall was established in Edo City(modern Tokyo) , and the shakuhachi became popular, including with the general public.
Kinko Kurosawa founded the "Kinko-ryu（琴古流）"
Kinko Kurosawa (1710-1771) is a famous player from the Fukiawase-dokoro, traveled to various places as a shakuhachi teacher. He also collected the original songs of the shakuhachi. He was the founder of the "琴古流（Kinko ryu）", then from this time on, a school master system was formed.
